Ten Steps to Reclaim your Inner Peace.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the barrage of distressing news at the moment? Me too. Sometimes we feel at a loss, what to say, how to act, how to move forward in a positive, powerful way.
Our deepest fears are being triggered and we feel unsteady and unsure. When this happens to me, I take myself to my mat, my sofa or my garden and do these 10 steps to reclaim my Inner Peace…
- Begin in the body – Lie down and tune in. Practise deep listening. What does my body need today? If you need to unwind physical tension, move slowly, intuitively. Trust that you know what to do.
- Notice your breath – it is the mirror of your mind. Is the breath tight, constricted, long, deep, short, ragged? – notice how this is a reflection of what is going on, on the inside.
- Give yourself permission to rest – little and often works best. Feet up, cushion under thighs and head, a scarf over your eyes. Gift yourself 10 minutes. Just 10 minutes.
- While you are resting, observe the mind. What are the themes, patterns, habitual thoughts on repeat, like a broken record? – does your self-talk empower you or belittle you?
- Slow the thoughts by slowing the breath. One hand on your belly and one on your heart. Slow down. Breathe love, patience, forgiveness - whatever you need – breathe it in and receive.
- Realise this universal truth: You are not your body, you are not your breath and you are not your mind.
- Tune in to who you really are, beyond the body, breath and mind. Rest here. Recharge. Notice what it feels like to stop, be still and quiet. Feel your nervous system re-calibrating itself.
- Be grateful for your body that gives you access to the gift of life. Feel each breath as the most beautiful blessing. Replace unkind thoughts with loving thoughts.
- Before you move a single muscle, decide what you’re going to do next. Create an intention for whatever is coming next in your day.
- Get up slowly and return to your day and your people. Smile softly and recognise what a precious gift you are to the world. You are meant to be here. You are needed, loved and seen. Take a long slow breath and step back into the world with your inner peace restored and your stress response soothed...
You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level.

Stay connected to your inner peace as you move through your day and whenever you feel yourself losing your connection to it, repeat one or all of the above!! Teach others if you can. Go, shine your light!
